Live Provider Metrics

278,206

Dental Providers Tracked

Total dental providers in the ProviderSignal database, sourced from the CMS NPI/NPPES registry. Includes general dentists, oral surgeons, orthodontists, periodontists, endodontists, prosthodontists, and pediatric dentists across all 50 states.

9,605

Triggers Fired in the Last 30 Days

Practice-level changes detected by the weekly NPPES delta and DSO clustering: new associates added, ownership transitions, DSO acquisitions, practice expansions, and providers moving between practices. Each trigger is a sales conversation in progress; reps and biz-dev teams act on them within days, not months.

20,087

DSO-Affiliated Practices

Practices flagged as DSO-affiliated by the six-signal entity-resolution pipeline (brand match + multi-location org + shared phone billing + address cascade + brand-locator corpus + credentialing-official registry). Supplier reps use the flag to route procurement conversations: rep-direct for independents, national accounts for chains.

Data Coverage

147,585

Enriched License Records

Provider records that carry deep state-board enrichment beyond the NPPES baseline: license number, status, expiration, issue date, disciplinary history, anesthesia and sedation permits, and graduation data. Sourced from 42 state board feeds (including DC).

13,235

Dental HPSA Designations

HRSA-designated Dental Health Professional Shortage Areas across all 50 states, DC, and US territories. Practices in HPSAs qualify for loan repayment, Medicare bonuses, and J-1 visa waivers: a buying signal for new-graduate placement and equipment financing reps.

ZIP Code Tabulation Areas with population, median income, median age, and age distribution from the Census American Community Survey (2022 5-year estimates).

Methodology & Sources

Provider counts are queried live from the ProviderSignal PostgreSQL database. The provider dataset is sourced from the CMS NPI/NPPES bulk download file, filtered to dental taxonomy codes. License enrichment data comes from 42 state dental boards (including DC) on cadences ranging from daily diff to weekly snapshot. See the Data Sources page for per-state methodology.

Trigger events are derived from the weekly NPPES delta plus practice-level clustering: new associates appearing at an existing billing address, providers disappearing from one cluster and reappearing in another, organization name changes that flip a practice into DSO affiliation. DSO-affiliated counts are computed by a six-signal entity-resolution pipeline (brand match + multi-location org + shared phone billing + address cascade + brand-published office-locator match + NPPES credentialing-official registry) with per-signal confidence stored in the dso_signals JSONB column. HPSA designations are from the HRSA data warehouse. Census demographics are from the American Community Survey 5-Year Estimates (2022).

All data refreshes are managed by an automated pipeline orchestrator. Source freshness is tracked in the data_source_status table. See the Data Sources page for detailed methodology on each source.
